Coordinated Breast Care at CNOS

Through our partnership with the June E. Nylen Cancer Center, CNOS Coordinated Breast Care provides inclusive breast cancer care for all aspects of treatment, from diagnosis to reconstruction and healing. You have enough to worry about, that’s why we make our Coordinated Breast Care easy on you.

Sophie Sommervold and Nicole Trudeau, our breast care coordinators, will speak with you first to set up all consultations and appointments, from surgery to oncology to reconstruction, if needed.

After your visit with your general surgeon, oncologist, and plastic surgeon, we meet with the entire multi-disciplinary team to discuss your case. After reviewing all available information, we’ll devise your best treatment plan.

The multi-disciplinary meeting gives everyone a chance to weigh in and discuss options for the patient. This teamwork eliminates confusion and stress, streamlines the treatment process, and puts you on the path to healing with a specific road map in place.

At CNOS, you’ll never be alone with breast cancer. You’ll be with the best.

Your team includes:

  • Your Family Physician and/or OBGYN
  • A CNOS General Surgeon
  • Radiologist – A physician trained in the diagnostic use of x-rays, ultrasound, and imaging.
  • Pathologist – Specialist in the study of disease.
  • Radiation Oncologist – Oncologist trained in the use of radiation for the treatment of cancers.
  • Medical Oncologist – Oncologist who treats cancers with chemotherapy, hormones, biologicals, or immunologic agents.
  • Plastic Surgeon – A surgeon specializing in breast reconstruction after your treatment.
  • Breast Care Coordinators – Patient’s personal advocate and contact during their course of treatment.

Your coordinated breast care, step by step.

The process begins once you get diagnosed with breast cancer. Your family physician or OBGYN can refer you to us, or you can call us directly. You will talk to Sophia Sommervold or Nicole Trudea, our Breast Care Coordinators, and they will work with you to schedule your first appointment within a week of diagnosis.

STEP ONE

You begin your healing journey at CNOS. One of our breast care coordinators greets you when you arrive. At this appointment, you will meet with a general surgeon who will discuss your surgical options. Then, a staff member will coordinate the scheduling of appointments with other specialties of the team, such as oncology or plastic surgery,

STEP TWO

Once a week the multidisciplinary team meets to discuss all current cases. This eliminates any communication breakdowns. They will discuss your case, based on your latest medical records, photos, and radiology slides and agree on a recommended plan of treatment. A coordinator will call you directly with the outcome of that meeting and if more procedures or tests need to be ordered.

The team includes:

Radiologist

Pathologist

Radiation Oncologist

Medical Oncologist

Breast Care Coordinator

Plastic Surgeon

STEP THREE

Once your recommended plan of treatment is created, we will meet with you again to discuss your options moving forward, including any different procedures. The goal is to accomplish all three of these steps in one to get you on the path of healing quickly and safely.

CNOS is proud to provide comprehensive care for patients before, during, and after their diagnosis.
