MercyOne Siouxland Foundation is excited to announce Craig Nemechek, MD, as the 2023 recipient of the Dr. George G. Spellman Annual Service Award.
The Spellman Award will be given to Dr. Nemecheck at MercyOne’s 2023 Gala, an annual fundraising event for the MercyOne Foundation, on November 4. The “Speakeasy” themed Gala is being chaired by Jerad and Peggy Higman.
The Dr. George G. Spellman Annual Service Award, named after the late, longtime Sioux City physician, recognizes community members or groups who, with their time, talent and treasure, generously exemplify the values of MercyOne.
Dr. Nemechek’s contributions to the local medical community are extensive and include serving as medical director of MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center’s trauma center and as a hospital board member.
“I’m deeply honored to receive the Dr. George G. Spellman Award, an accolade that carries the spirit of an extraordinary doctor who selflessly gave back to the community,” said Dr. Nemechek. “This recognition inspires me to continue the legacy of compassion and service.”
Dr. Nemechek is board certified in general surgery and has practiced at The Center for Neurosciences, Orthopaedics, & Spine (CNOS) since July 2011. He received his Doctor of Medicine (High Distinction) from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Dr. Nemechek and his wife Angie have two sons. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing and reading.
“Dr. Nemechek is passionate about his patients and our community, and he works diligently to improve the lives of his patients by providing excellent care. He truly lives out the mission of MercyOne,” said Tracy Feathers, Development Officer, MercyOne Siouxland Foundation. “We are proud to honor Dr. Nemechek with the Spellman Award.”
Proceeds from the Galal benefit MercyOne Siouxland’s Child Advocacy Center, which provides services to children who are suspected victims of sexual, physical, mental or emotional abuse or who have been witness to violent crime.
