During a triple vascular screening, ultrasounds are taken in three key areas to check for fatty buildup or
weakening of the vascular walls:
Neck (carotid arteries)
Abdomen (abdominal aorta)
Legs (peripheral arteries)
Carotid Ultrasound Screen
This ultrasound helps detect plaque build up in the carotid arteries of the neck. Carotid artery disease is one of the
leading causes of strokes.
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA)
An abdominal aortic aneurysm is a weakened, bulging spot in your abdominal aorta, the artery that runs through the middle of your abdomen and supplies blood to the lower half of your body. An AAA can check for this.
Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
This ultrasound checks for arterial blockage in the legs. When you don't receive enough blood flow to keep up with demand this can cause leg pain when walking.
Our carotid ultrasound screening is conducted by certified technicians and reviewed by Siouxland's premier expert on stroke prevention, Dr. Jennifer Pary. |
