Physical and Occupational Therapy services are available seven days per week for those patients undergoing surgery at Siouxland Surgery Center. Your physical therapist will be Mark Hall, PT, who received his Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from The University of South Dakota in 1998. Michele Pierce, PTA, received her Associates Degree in the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Clarkson College and will be assisting with your therapy as well.
If you have received Total Hip Arthroplasty or Total Knee Arthroplasty, therapy will be provided twice daily for the entire length of stay (usually three days). Treatment sessions will consist of exercises to help restore range of motion and strength, performance of various activities including walking, transferring and stair climbing, and the establishment of a home exercise program to be performed upon returning home.
Those undergoing spinal surgery may also be referred for therapy services. These services may include education in proper body mechanics, lifting restrictions, adaptive equipment and transfers. In addition, patients will practice walking, performing stairs and transferring in and out of bed/chair.
The main objective of Physical and Occupational Therapy at Siouxland Surgery Center is to improve your overall functional status in order to ensure a safe return home.
