KEVIN NEGAARD HONORED WITH 2012 CNOS FOUNDATION

CARING FOR OUR COMMUNITY AWARD

Dakota Dunes, SD -- Kevin Negaard has been selected as the 2012 Caring For Our Community award recipient for his years of dedication to sports medicine and athletes in the Siouxland area, announced Michael Hurlburt, CEO of CNOS Foundation.  Negaard was presented the award on Friday, January 6, 2012 during the 6th Annual CNOS Foundation Basketball Classic at the Tyson Events Center.

“The Caring For Our Community award is CNOS Foundation’s way of honoring those people who have dedicated their personal and professional life to enhancing the Siouxland Community.  Kevin deservedly joins a distinguished list of past honorees who have positively impacted the community, built a legacy and influenced the lives of many,” said Hurlburt.

Since 1992, Negaard has worked to cultivate one of the most advanced networks of sports medicine coverage in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota, touching the lives of thousands of athletes.  Due to his devotion and determination, the Siouxland region now has a network of highly-specialized trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, sports medicine physicians and physical therapists all working together for the care and prevention of injuries in athletes.

“Kevin Negaard has revolutionized sports medicine in this area.  He was instrumental in building the first sports medicine programs in area schools and has continued to improve the care and expertise needed to truly help athletes get immediate treatment and back into action sooner.  Kevin’s passion for taking care of kids makes him most deserving of this award,” said Dr. Thomas Jacobson, Orthopaedic surgeon at CNOS, PC.

Dr. Ryan Meis, Orthopaedic surgeon at CNOS, PC said, “Kevin has selflessly given his time and immeasurable talent to the athletes of Siouxland since 1992.  It was his vision to provide a means by which athletes could receive expert, specialized care in a timely fashion.  Despite his incredible talents and success, Kevin has always gone about his work in a humble, service-oriented fashion.  He’s always made it clear that every athlete, coach, or patient, is just as important as any other -- from the Division I athlete to the junior varsity reserve player.”

Tom Betz, Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools Director of Admissions and Alumni Relations added, “Kevin has been a leader in sports medicine and athletic training at our local high schools and at the collegiate level, as well as a pioneer in the field of strength training for so many of the area’s athletes.  Well-respected by everyone he comes in contact with, Kevin is an advocate for kids and has positively impacted coaches and athletes throughout his career.”

Past recipients of the CNOS Foundation Caring For Our Community award include Tim Seaman, Steve Diedeker and Bruce Held, Dr. Thomas Jacobson, the late Dr. Stephen H. Noel, and the Rich Vanderloo Family.
